Judith Aitken (Nominated Supervisor (Director)

Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and Bachelor of Education

I have over 25 years of experience working in early childhood settings and I've been at this amazing kindergarten since 2012. I am passionate about building connections with young children and their families and celebrating the rich diversity that each child and family brings to our centre. My passions include storytelling, encouraging children's managed risk taking and understanding the importance of children's social and emotional well-being.

In 2024, I will be taking on the non-contact role of Nominated Supervisor, after 12 years of teaching in Group B. I look forward to working with staff as I get to know our Kedron Heights' families.

I have worked as a teacher in community kindergartens for almost 20 years and value the opportunity to support children and their families in their kindergarten year. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for the arts, literacy, science and physical activities with the children in a play-based environment and I am honoured to work with the families at Kedron Heights Kindergarten to ensure the best outcomes for all children.

I have over ten years of teaching experience in the Vocational Education sector and for the past five years I have focused my teaching on early childhood education, specifically working with children with diverse needs. I am passionate about inclusive education; creating a safe, supportive and stimulating environment for each individual child to explore, learn and grow.

Having worked in a variety of roles in the early childhood sector over the past 30 years, I am very excited to be a part of the excellent teaching team here at Kedron Heights Community Kindy. I look forward to sharing your child's journey and creating a wonderful year of amazing memories. I am a mum to 3 beautiful children – 2 boys and 1 girl. When I am not teaching I love to go on bushwalks, travel, read and listen to music. I also really like running!

Involvement with community based kindergartens and the philosophy they embody form the foundation of my career in early childhood education.  Kedron Heights Community Kindergarten has been an important part of my life for more than 12 years and I enjoy nurturing individual and collective ideas through play based learning. It’s wonderful to watch children’s ideas and interests evolve and friendships develop and grow over the course of the kindergarten year.

I've enjoyed working in Early Childhood in France and the UK for 5 years previously. I'm a creative at heart, and I love the creativity, the imagination, the enthusiasm and wonder that the children express as they learn through their play experiences and time together. I also love the process of imagining and setting up some of these learning environments with them. In the past few years I've been involved as a parent and volunteer in Community Kindergartens, and I've been in awe of the exceptional experience this type of setting provides to our children. I'm therefore overjoyed to be a part of Kedron Heights Kindergarten as an Educator/Assistant in 2024.

With almost 20 years of special education teaching and curriculum development under my belt, I am excited to work at KHCK (where my 3 children also attended), and provide inclusion support to see these beautiful children thrive.  Helping children find their voice through effective communication has always been my passion and this is a wonderful place for me to be while I take a slight detour in my career and study to become a Speech Pathologist.
