About KHCK

Kedron Heights Community Kindy (KHCK) is located in the inner northern Brisbane suburb of Kedron.

We are a single unit sessional kindergarten, operating two kindy groups per week for children to attend in the year prior to Prep.  Both groups align with the state school terms, including school holidays.

We welcome the QLD Government Free Kindy initiative (15hrs per week for 40 weeks per year) commencing in 2024. To be eligible for Free Kindy, children need to be at least 4 years of age by June 30 in their kindergarten year and families must nominate Kedron Heights Community Kindergarten to receive the QLD Government Kindy funding on their behalf.

We have been assessed under the National Quality Standards (NQS) as part of The National Quality Framework (NQF) for Early Childhood Education and Care and given the rating of "Exceeding National Quality Standard"

From our Centre Philosophy...

All children are uniquely capable, competent and social. They demonstrate curiosity and resourcefulness about their world. As educators, we respect the knowledge, experiences, culture and language each child brings.  We have a commitment to advocate for and support each individual child’s special rights.

Our Acknowledgement

Beneath the concrete, Beneath the streets,

Beneath the places and the people we meet,

There is the soil, the clay and the sand.

Beneath all the places, there is the land.

(Author unknown)

At our kindergarten, we pay respects to elders past, present and future and acknowledge the Turrbal people, who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn, grow and play together.

Our natural environment provides endless opportunities for the children to connect with, engage in and learn from, while at the same time acknowledging and showing our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions.

Did You Know?

  • We are a single unit centre, i.e. there are only 22 children in our centre on any given day. From day one, the children develop a sense of belonging and connection to their special kindy, with the same group of children and educators each day. This sense of belonging and connection contributes to their ability to grow, develop, and thrive.

  • We offer two groups per week:

  • Group A: Mon, Tues, alt Wed 8.40am – 2.50pm

  • Group B: Thurs, Fri 8.30am – 4.30pm

  • Our playful learning environment inspires children to engage in meaningful learning experiences. A balanced and intentional curriculum is planned which incorporates uninterrupted time for child-directed play, where educators scaffold children’s learning.

  • We have regular trips to the parklands across the road for a variety of activities, including nature experiences in our “Magical Forest”.

  • We are a community-run kindergarten, i.e. we are managed by a parent committee who supports staff with decisions relating to the kindy, as well as social and fundraising opportunities.

  • We have been assessed under the National Quality Standards (NQS) as part of the National Quality Framework (NQF) for Early Childhood Education and Care and given the rating of EXCEEDING THE NATIONAL QUALITY STANDARD.
